Who am I

As already mentioned, my name is George Siatras. Born in Athens and raised in Korydallos, a beautiful region of the western suburbs of Athens, I currently am an undergraduate student at the Computer Engineering and Informatics Department of the University of Patras, located in Patras, GR and I am about to finish my studies in a couple of months. My thesis project is about Cloud Computing and OpenStack while OpenStack's Scheduling is emphasized and analyzed and some modifications to it are proposed.

Coming from a field of study like Computer Science, where things are advancing in extremely high speeds, it is, and has always been from early on, expected of me to find ways of coping with it. In order to expand my knowledge on this field beyond what my University offers, I tend to take online courses and attend conferences, not only related to my field but also concerning Startups. I am looking forward to gaining knowledge and experience on the Cloud Computing, Web Development and Software Development fields, all of which have advanced in many ways.

Apart from the above, I like to keep an eye on how Bitcoin, and Cryptocurrencies in general, advance.


Experience

2012

Back in 2012, I was given the chance to travel for a week in San Francisco with some colleagues of mine and visit some large companies, such as Twitter and Oracle. There, I had the privilege of hearing first-hand advice of highly accomplished individuals and catching a glimpse of their way of thinking. It was an unforgetable experience which certainly boosted my ambitions. That summer, I attended the Algorithmic Game Theory Summer School in Samos, GR.

2013

In 2013, I was a Teaching Assistant at the Assembly Language Lab of my University's Department.

2013 - 2014 SUMMERS

During the summers of 2013 and 2014, I had been working at Fibernet, a company founded in 2001 and holds its headquarters in Athens, in the field of Installation and Support of Network and Security Systems, whose website I am currently developing.

2014 - NOW

Being excited about the TEDx institution I attended one of the first and biggest TEDx events globally, TEDxAthens. I was so amazed that I decided on taking part in such an event as an organizer. So, in 2014, I got to be one of the core team members of the very first TEDx event in Patras, TEDxUPatras, in which I am a member of the IT team and Web Developer.

2015 - NOW

In June 2015, I participated in CruiseInn, a four days entrepreneurial contest in a cruise ship where the target was to create start ups within Tourism sector and Cultural Heritage while traveling in Aegean. There, hopwave was born. Hopwave is a platform whose target is to provide a unique user experience through a mobile app and a fully responsive web app resulting into the tool in the hands of every traveler. That said, it will enable them to easily find and book tickets for every itinerary between all the Greek islands as well as promote the idea of organising your own island hopping using all possible transportation options like boats, cruiseships, yachts, or even hydroplanes!

2014 - NOW

Besides the TEDxUPatras, I am the IT Manager of the GPSC, Greek Pharmacy Students' Conference, since November 2014, where I developed the 2015 event website as well as its landing page. Both of them are based on the bootstrap framework and the latter's responsiveness has been extensively worked on. Moreover, I currently develop a back end system based on Django, which will provide a user system and the ability to change the content regarding three sections of the site in a dynamic and user friendly way.

2015 - NOW

Except for those mentioned, in order to pursuit several projects, either mine or University required ones, I got to be familiar with C# and XNA (Windows Phone Game Development), CUDA, R, the OpenMP framework, Cisco IOS as well as the ownCloud platform and Google Analytics.
